DEEP DIVE

The Easiest Way to Talk About Yourself

In the past year, Iā€™ve worked with over 10 clients, dozens of vendors, podcast interviews, and Iā€™m in the thick of interviewing for some dream roles. I needed to communicate who I am, what I do, and how I do it. Quickly.

šŸ˜® Hereā€™s how I did it:

  • Introduce yourself: first + last name.

  • Always start with gratitude: thanks for jumping on the call, etc.

  • Connection: Iā€™ve loved your content, Iā€™m glad so-and-so connected us, Iā€™ve heard great things about you from so-and-so.

  • Then jump into the rule of three.

šŸ¤” Whatā€™s the rule of three?

ā€œHere are three important things you should know about meā€ and list three things. Hereā€™s an example:

Three important things you should know about me. Iā€™m a lifelong learner, people are at the core of all my work, and I like to have fun.

  1. Iā€™m a lifelong learner: I walked onto my collegiate rowing team, earned a scholarship, and left an NCAA Div. 1 National Champion.

  2. People are at the core of what drives my motivation. I spent the first half of my career capturing stories about people living with terminal illnesses, experiencing homelessness, overcoming mental illness, and more.

  3. I like to have fun. Iā€™m a big fan of the saying ā€œeat the frog first.ā€ I like to do the heavy lifting first and efficiently. Once you get the hard work out of the way, creating moments of celebration is how I survived the start-up space in the second half of my career.

šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļøWant to try this yourself? Copy your entire LinkedIn profile using the prompt below (I prefer Claude over Chat GPT):

What are the three themes you see in my career? Only use one word for each theme.

šŸ¤© Use the prompt follow-up: Use those three words to tell an interviewer what my values and work ethic are. Use first person.

Why HBOā€™s House of the Dragon and Pixarā€™s Inside Out 2 Captivated Audiences

ICYMI: Inside Out 2 had the strongest global opening by an animated film of all time and House of the Dragon is the golden ticket to HBOā€™s Emmy campaign. Hereā€™s why I think they were successful:

  1. Strong IP: Itā€™s not news that sequels and prequels are strong because the audience is already familiar with the character. Audiences are craving a feeling of familiarity.

  2. Marketing: House of the Dragon took over New Yorkā€™s Empire State Building this past weekend and Inside Out 2ā€™s cast had a brilliant global press tour.

  3. Storytelling: Media companies that provide a solution to a mass audienceā€™s problems thoughtfully and compellingly perform strongly.

Hereā€™s How You Can DIY with AI

šŸ¤“ Answer the Public is one of my favorite tools that use AI to scrape Google searches and create a concise interactive image. If you are trying to create a strong story, start with solving a problem. Figure out what those problems are with this tool.

šŸŽØ Fan fiction's creative explorations have been rumored to inspire films like "The Idea of You." Use your audience (and their incredible talents) like the AI trailer below for House of the Dragon to give their hot takes and re-create the worlds youā€™ve built.

šŸ«¶ This is my momā€™s favorite section, I couldnā€™t cut it, but most of the images are hyperlinks if you want to dive in yourself.
