⭐️ Question: What AI companies are on my radar?

✨ Vibe Board

Here are some of my favorite things from this week:

LISTENING

TRYING

Galloway argues that while an MBA provides valuable skills and networking opportunities, the essence of entrepreneurship is risk-taking, salesmanship, and resilience against rejection—traits not necessarily fostered by MBA programs.

edX: AI Applications and Prompt Engineering

FEELING

VISITING

What’s in your control this week? Shoutout to Elizabeth for sharing this visual with me!

Keeping it real - a loved one's hospitalization (they're recovering well) has slowed my content creation this week as I balanced work and being present for family. I appreciate your understanding as I prioritized supporting those closest to me during this time.

🫶 AI for Good

How This CEO's Traumatic Porn Experience Led to an AI Content Protection Startup

Founded by a victim of non-consensual intimate video sharing, Ceartas has raised $4.5 million to apply AI in identifying and issuing takedown notices for pirated content and deepfakes across platforms, protecting brands and content creators.

  • Dan Purcell founded Ceartas after his private intimate videos were uploaded to a porn site without his consent by an ex-partner. This motivated him to create a solution to help prevent such violations.

  • Ceartas applies AI to bolster brand protection and anti-piracy services for content creators and brands.

  • It scans digital platforms to identify unauthorized content, including deepfakes, and automatically issues DMCA takedown notices.

  • Ceartas has raised $4.5 million in a seed round from investors like Earlybird Venture Capital and Upside VC (a fund established by influencer group Sidemen).

  • The startup claims its AI system significantly lowers problematic content's visibility on Google by 98% and is rated highly on Google's transparency index for accurate URL delistings compared to competitors.

  • Ceartas plans to expand from serving content creators to also catering to enterprises dealing with counterfeit physical goods by tuning its AI model accordingly.

Seafood's AI Awakening: Revolutionizing Seafood Quality and Sustainability

Shinkei, a startup that has raised $6 million, has developed an automated system for more humanely and efficiently harvesting fish that could upend the seafood industry by enabling higher quality, longer-lasting products and a more sustainable supply chain.

  • Shinkei has developed an automated system that more humanely and efficiently harvests fish by quickly spiking their brains, resulting in higher quality meat with longer shelf life and less bacterial contamination compared to traditional methods where fish suffocate on decks.

  • After refining its prototypes, Shinkei has raised $6 million to move towards production, with a goal of having 10 machines in actual use on fishing vessels by the end of 2024. The company envisions its technology enabling a transformation in the seafood economy.

  • By allowing fish to retain premium taste and texture for longer periods, Shinkei's system could reduce waste, enable more local processing instead of overseas, put downward pressure on overfishing, and make the entire seafood supply chain more efficient and sustainable.
