Inside the Making of an AI-Generated Movie

Todd Terrazas, Philip Meier and I created a short film as part of GEN:48 - a 48-hour film competition.

Key takeaways:

  • We show how AI tools like Runway and Gen-1 can be used to automate and enhance many aspects of filmmaking, from writing to post-production.

  • It’s a 4-minute Behind the Scenes video about what it looks like to make AI films in LA, mostly it’s a lil snapshot of a fun weekend I had with friends.

👨‍🍳 AI Vibes

Alibaba Group’s New Language Model Out Performs Chat GPT

The model, called “Smaug-72B,” was released publicly today by the startup Abacus AI.

  1. This new open-source language model outperforms leading proprietary models like GPT-3.5 and Mistral Medium on benchmarks.

  2. It is the first open-source model to score over 80 on the Hugging Face leaderboard.

  3. Smaug-72B was created by startup Abacus AI by fine-tuning Qwen-72B, an earlier open-source model. It shows particular strength in reasoning and math tasks.

  4. Other notable recent open-source models include Qwen 1.5 and Qwen-VL-Max, which rival proprietary models from OpenAI and Google.

🫶 AI for Good

The First AI Virtual March for Climate Justice

For 99% of America, if you want a 401(k), you're forced to invest in Big Oil. This AI-powered march is helping fix that.

  • The first-ever virtual march that uses AI to create images of participants marching down Wall Street, happening February 6-12, 2024.

  • Over 80 celebrities joined by posting their AI-generated march images on social media to raise awareness. Anyone can participate and donations fund continuing efforts by the nonprofit coalition behind the march.
