Coming Monday: Apple Goes All-In on AI with Siri Revamp, Generative Features Galore in iOS 18

Rumor has it, Apple is integrating AI extensively across iOS 18, with major AI-powered enhancements coming to all the core apps through generative AI.

  • Apple is expected to showcase how it is integrating AI technology, including through a partnership with OpenAI, into its devices and software like iOS 18 at WWDC 2024. This will involve AI enhancements to apps like Siri, Photos, Safari, Notes, Messages, Calendar, Mail, and more.

  • Siri is set to receive a major AI revamp, leveraging Apple's own large language models to allow it to control features within apps without needing setup. It will gain more natural voices, the ability to summarize notifications, and may come with a new look.

  • Other AI-powered features expected in iOS 18 include AI photo editing and cleanup tools in Photos, AI recaps and transcriptions in apps like Safari and Notes, generative AI emojis and suggested replies in Messages, AI-powered playlists in Apple Music, and the ability to place app icons freely on the home screen.

CISCO Launches$1B Global AI Investment Fund

Cisco Systems is investing $1 billion in AI startups and aims to partner with them to incorporate their technology into its products and services as it makes a major push into the booming artificial intelligence industry.

  • Cisco plans to invest $1 billion in a fund focused on AI startups working on "secure and reliable" artificial intelligence solutions. This is part of Cisco's broader strategy to leverage generative AI to enhance its products and services for customers.

  • The initial investments from the $1 billion fund include Cohere (frontier large language models), Mistral AI (generative AI models), and Scale AI (data preparation platform for AI training). Cisco aims to partner and co-innovate with these firms.

  • Cisco has made over 20 AI-focused acquisitions and investments in recent years as part of its holistic strategy to build essential AI technology and be a strategic partner for enterprises in the AI era across software, infrastructure, data/training and security.
